Homework Packets go home on Monday and are due back to school on Friday.
Typically they are a 2-3 page packet practicing handwriting, reading, and math skills. Listed each week are our sight words, please practice them daily with your child. For the words they don't know, please write them on flashcards and continue working on those as we add new words throughout the year.
Read, READ, Read!
Please read with your child daily for 15-20 minute and document it on your child's reading log. This time can be divided with them listening to someone reading aloud and them reading to an adult. Both are key components in learning to read and developing reading comprehension skills. As we complete mini-books in class, students can place them in their Shoebox Libraries they brought home in October to read "just right books" to their adults.
Looking for additional things to work on at home?
Any opportunity to practice counting and number recognition, upper and lowercase letter recognition and their corresponding sounds is time well-spent. You can support learning these skills with magnetic letters/numbers, flashcards, a marker and mini whiteboard, and/or with play-doh. It need not be fancy or expensive to be effective! Students can also practice writing their first and last name and memorizing their phone number and address. They can also log on to IXL.com and Starfall.com to work on reading and math skills. Please contact Mrs. D for log-in information.
